Prague and Vienna 2012

From 11-19 December 2012, 46 members of the MGS Secondary Choir ‘czeched’ into Prague and Vienna. Competing in the 13^th International Festival of Advent and Christmas Music, the choir achieved stellar results, attaining gold awards in two categories they competed in and emerging as the winner of the Children’s Choir category amidst stiff competition from many European Choirs!

Aside from the competition, they were invited to perform in the Opening and Gala concerts of the competition, at a Church mass in St. Nicholas Church at Prague’s Old Town Square and carolled in front of the Schőnbrunn Palace in Vienna as part of the Palace’s Christmas celebrations.

The choir also brought joy to the children in Klokánek, a new project by the association Fond ohroženych détí (The Fund for Children in Need). This project aims to provide a warm family environment for children who are orphans or are unable to stay with their own family. Besides performing for the them, the Choir shared with the young children simple handicrafts like origami folding and finger-printing and went away blessed by the experience.

In Vienna, the choir also visited the Haus der Musik where they attended a master-class conducted by a Grammy award winning clinician Professor Erwin Ortner.

This trip has truly been an excellent learning experience for the Choir, allowing them the chance to grow musically, bond tremendously and work towards a common goal. All these were achieved whilst they spread love and joy the way they best know how – through song.
